Camel Audio's award-winning plugins are now available on Muse Research's Receptor, the hardware plugin player. CamelCrusher - a freeware compressor, distortion and filter multi-effect - comes pre-installed on all Receptors, along with demo versions of our other plugins. Registered users can crossgrade to Receptor versions free of charge.
A specially-licensed version of CamelSpace is now included with the popular MixMeister DJ software . Its powerful 128-step 'trance gate' sequencer, auto-panner and tempo-synced delay bring a whole raft of creative possibilities within reach of the adventurous DJ - not to mention the flanger, enhancer, reverb and multi-mode filter!
WireTap Studio is a handy audio recording, editing and arrangement tool for Mac OS X, recently released by Ambrosia Software . Among other cool features, WireTap Studio now comes complete with a fully-functional CamelCrusher plugin, and demo versions of both CamelSpace and CamelPhat.
They have updated CamelSpace to v1.42 Win and v1.44 OSX, and CamelPhat to v3.42 Win and v3.44 OSX. These updates fix MIDI learn and preset selection issues in Cubase 4 and problems with automation in Digital Performer. Camel Audio have released Starscape Absynth Sounds for Native Instruments Absynth 4, a collection of 250 high-quality presets designed by Tim Conrardy, featuring evolving, moving textures, 'alien' ethnic instruments, intricate rhythms, 'spacial' basses and leads, and otherworldly sound effects
I visted the Camel Audio booth with one of our clients, Terry Huud. Terry is an endorsee of theirs. Having never checked out their software before, it was very interesting to see what they do. I was impressed with what you can do with their synth and effect plug ins. I met Ben Gillett, the owner of Camel Audio. He started programing because he couldn't find a plug in to make his tracks "fat" enough. That is how the first version of Camel Phat. came about. He still programs that way. It's all about the quality of sound and easy control of the plug in effect or synth. While talking to Ben we learned about a new product that may possibly come out later. Both Terry and I were impressed by what we saw. If you have never check out their software, you should. It's very cool.....
Cameleon 5000 is an additive synth, featuring resynthesis
and sound morphing, which excels at pads and evolving textures and comes
with a library of over 800 presets. At its heart is the morph square which
allows you to morph between four different instruments at once. You can
also use the morph timeline to create rythmic loops, evolving soundscapes
and pads. Uniquely, Cameleon comes with a range of preset morph timelines,

Cameleon can import sampled sounds (WAV/AIFF) into any of the four voice slots, or you can choose from the extensive range of built in voices. Cameleon has many unique features: it breaks sounds down into both a harmonic and noise component resulting in much higher quality, and greater flexibility. No other additive synth is able to perform multi-sampling resynthesis, which results in much more realistic and expressive sounds.
Cameleon also allows you to import image (BMP) files and turn them into sounds. This offers an extremely powerful way to design never heard before sounds, and if you're ever stuck for inspiration, just try loading up any picture - perhaps a picture of your mum!
Once you have imported a sound, you can then edit it in ways which are impossible with a conventional sampler. You have individual control over each of the harmonics - so you can for example boost all the odd harmonics, or even draw your own harmonic spectra.
Every part of Cameleons interface has been designed with ease of use in mind, and the 'easy' page is just one example. The easy page has simple but powerful controls to quickly shape the sound, including the ability to change the balance of harmonics and noise, add LFOs, or edit the amplitude envelope. You can also use the unique 'stretch' parameter to time stretch sounds in real time without the loss in quality associated with other instruments.
Cameleon has a comprehensive set of effects, including a sweepable formant filter, distortion, compression, chorus, delay and reverb. Cameleon is supplied with over 800 presets, all arranged into categories, such as pads, leads and basses. If you're after instant inspiration, just select the type of sound you require (eg. rythmics) and hit the random button to get an entirely new random rythmic loop, which has never been heard before. Cameleon also comes with a really well written manual including tutorials and tips on getting the best out of it.
